Film Stocks Master List — the Canon of Top Stocks & Recipe Coverage
The reference canon of the most important film stocks per manufacturer, with this bank's coverage status. Use this to decide what to emulate next.
Datasheets: official technical datasheets for nearly every stock below (46 PDFs, characteristic curves, spectral sensitivity, granularity) are archived in X-T5/_reference-sources/datasheets/, organised by manufacturer. Gaps are listed in that folder's README.
Coverage legend:
- original, validated/research-derived recipe in
X-T5/originals/ - reference, attributed recipe in
X-T5/reference-recipes/ - available, a known X-Trans V recipe exists (Fuji X Weekly unless noted) but isn't in the bank yet
- IV-only, only a X-Trans IV recipe exists. Needs porting (raise CCFXB one notch, see X-Trans V & Recipe Conversion Notes)
- gap, no known faithful recipe. Original-derivation candidate
- interpretation, an original in
X-T5/originals/that deliberately departs from the stock (e.g. The AP set, retuned for Indian skin tones). Listed here so the stock's coverage is complete, but it does not count as neutral emulation coverage of that stock

Current-catalogue check against the manufacturers (2026-08-08)
Checked against Kodak's still-film catalogue and Fujifilm India's negative-and-reversal page.
How this was sourced, because it bounds how much to trust it. Both manufacturer pages are blocked by this environment's network egress policy (
www.kodak.comandwww.fujifilm.comboth refuse), so neither was read directly. Everything below comes from trade coverage and retailer listings, cross-checked across several independent reports. The Kodak rename is corroborated by four sources including Fuji X Weekly, which this bank already cites elsewhere. The Fujifilm availability picture is thinner and India-specific stock levels were not established at all. Anyone with access to those two pages should verify this section.
Kodak renamed two whole lines in 2026, and this bank uses the old names throughout
Eastman Kodak has been reclaiming its film brands from Kodak Alaris. In January 2026 Ektar and Tri-X moved to direct Eastman Kodak distribution with their names intact. In March 2026 six films were reissued under historic Kodak names:
| Sold since 2012 as | Now sold as | Emulsion |
|---|---|---|
| Portra 160 | Ektacolor Pro 160 | unchanged |
| Portra 400 | Ektacolor Pro 400 | unchanged |
| Portra 800 | Ektacolor Pro 800 | unchanged |
| T-Max 100 | Ektapan 100 | unchanged |
| T-Max 400 | Ektapan 400 | unchanged |
| T-Max P3200 | Ektapan P3200 | unchanged |
Reporting is consistent that this is a rename rather than a reformulation: the film material is described as identical to the Kodak Alaris-branded stock sold since 2012, and Ektacolor and Ektapan are both revived historic Kodak names.
What this means here, and what it deliberately does not. Seven recipes in this bank carry a renamed film's name: the Portra 400 original, AP's Portra, and the 160 v2, 400 v2, 800 v3, Reggie's Portra, plus T-Max 100 and T-Max P3200.
None of them is being renamed. Three reasons: the emulsion is unchanged, so every datasheet-derived setting in those recipes still holds. The attributed reference recipes carry their authors' titles and rewriting those would misquote them. And the entire community, Fuji X Weekly included, still says Portra. The rename is recorded here and noted on the affected recipes so nobody reads a 2026 box of Ektacolor Pro 400 and concludes the bank is out of date.
The archived datasheets keep their publication numbers (E-4050 for Portra 400, F-4016 for T-Max 100), which are unaffected by the branding change.
Fujifilm: the line is much shorter than this list implies
| Stock | Status as best established |
|---|---|
| Superia X-TRA 400 | Discontinued April 2024, all markets. The bank's original and AP's Superia emulate a film you can now only buy expired. |
| Superia Premium 400 | Japan-only distribution |
| Fujicolor C200 | 35 mm only |
| Provia 100F | Still made. 35 mm, 120 and sheet |
| Velvia (50 / 100) | Made, but with reported raw-material supply constraints, worst in 120 |
| Acros II | Still made |
Fujifilm has at various points suspended domestic Japanese sales of remaining 35 mm colour negative and slide films over material shortages, so treat any "currently available" claim about a Fujifilm colour film as perishable.
The consequence worth acting on: most of the Fujifilm colour section above is now historical rather than current. That does not weaken the recipes, since a simulation of a discontinued film is exactly what a recipe bank is for, but it does change the priority ordering. Emulating a Fujifilm colour stock is now archival work, while the Kodak colour line is the one a buyer can still shoot alongside the recipe.

Motion-picture stocks, the full survey (added 2026-07-27)
The Kodak cine stocks are listed under Kodak above. This section is the wider motion-picture universe, surveyed against Wikipedia's List of motion picture film stocks (the standing reference, checked via the MediaWiki API) plus manufacturer and trade sources. It exists because the bank had seven cinema originals and all seven are Kodak, a real blind spot rather than a considered scope.
The standout gap: Fujifilm's own cine line
The bank uses the ETERNA film simulation constantly and has never made a recipe for the ETERNA film stocks it is named after. Fujifilm ceased all motion-picture film production on 31 March 2013, so these are historic, but they are the direct ancestors of a simulation on the camera, which makes them the most defensible cine gap in the bank.
| Stock | Code | Intro | Note | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eterna 500T | 8573/8673 | 2004 | The flagship, the stock the simulation is named for | top priority |
| Eterna 250D | 8563/8663 | 2006 | Daylight companion | |
| Eterna 250T | 8553/8653 | 2006 | Tungsten mid-speed | |
| Eterna 400T | 8583/8683 | 2005 | Discontinued 2011 | |
| Eterna Vivid 160T | 8543/8643 | 2007 | Higher-saturation variant line | |
| Eterna Vivid 250D | 8546/8646 | 2010 | ||
| Eterna Vivid 500T | 8547/8647 | 2009 | ||
| Reala 500D | 8592/8692 | 2001 | Fourth colour layer, and "the fastest daylight-balanced colour motion picture stock ever offered". Ties directly to the Reala Ace simulation | high value |
| Super F-series | 8522/8532/8562/8572 | 1999 | F-64D, F-125T, F-250D, F-500T, the pre-Eterna generation |
Other manufacturers and lines
| Stock / line | Status | Why it matters | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|
| ORWO NC500 / UN54 / N74-N75 | in production (FilmoTec, Germany) | The only genuinely new colour cine negative in decades, plus a current B&W line. The one gap here that is a current stock rather than history | |
| Kodak Tri-X Reversal 7266 | Available (16 mm) | B&W camera reversal, a projected positive, a different tonal class from every negative in the bank | |
| Kodak 2393 | In production | The higher-saturation print stock. The natural companion to the bank's 2383 | |
| Kodak Vision2 (5201/5205/5218) | Discontinued 2007-12 | The 2000s look, between Vision and Vision3 | |
| Kodak Vision (5246/5263) | Discontinued | The late-90s look | |
| Kodak EXR (5245/5248/5293/5296) | Discontinued 1989-2006 | The 90s cinema look, a genuinely distinct era | |
| Kodak Plus-X Reversal 7265 | Discontinued | B&W reversal, slower companion to Tri-X Reversal | |
| Agfa XT / Agfapan cine | Discontinued 1993 | Last in the ASC Manual 7th ed. | low priority |
| 3M, DuPont, GAF/Ansco, Svema, Tasma, Forte, Slavich | Long discontinued | Historic completeness only | not pursued |
Recommended order, and the honest constraint
- Eterna 500T 8573, the simulation's namesake. 2. Eterna 250D 8563. 3. Reala 500D 8592. 4. ORWO NC500 (the only current stock here). 5. Tri-X Reversal 7266. 6. Kodak 2393.
** The constraint that governs all of these. Fujifilm's cine datasheets are not in this bank's archive and Fujifilm no longer hosts them, so a Eterna recipe would start where ColorPlus started, at the weakest evidence tier, unless a datasheet is found. Theatrical footage is also structurally blocked as scan evidence (frame-grabs carry the DI grade, see the 2383 validation). Do not open these as datasheet-derived originals without first checking whether a Fujifilm cine datasheet is actually retrievable.**
Priority queue, closed 2026-07-16
All six 2026-07-15 priority items are now covered: Ektar 100 and Pro 400H as datasheet-derived originals. CineStill 400D v2, Kodachrome 25, Plus-X 125, and T-Max 100 (Hard/Soft Tone) as attributed reference recipes. Delta 3200 and Pan F Plus 50 as datasheet-derived originals (the two derivation candidates). See the notes (2026-07-15 entries) for details.
2026-07-25. Delta 100 / 400 closed
Ilford Delta 100 and Delta 400 are now datasheet-derived originals, the datasheets had been archived since 2026-07-15 but never actually read into a recipe. Extracting them turned up a real, citable contrast target for Delta 400 (Gbar 0.62, "normal contrast") and confirmed both films' shared T-grain lineage with Delta 3200, which is now documented as a cross-cutting axis in the B&W README. Both are datasheet-tier only, no real-film scan yet for either.
Next tier of gaps (candidates for a future pass)
- Astia 100F, port a X-Trans IV Astia recipe (CCFXB one notch up).
- Superia 100 / Fujicolor C200, fetch FXW recipes to round out the Fuji consumer-negative family.
- Vericolor III 160. Portra's direct ancestor. Fetch FXW recipe.
- Agfa Ultra 100 / Scala 200, fetch FXW recipes. Agfa datasheets (APX, Scala) already archived.
- CineStill 50D, no confirmed X-Trans V recipe found yet.
- ~~XP2 Super 400 / SFX 200~~ closed 2026-07-25, both derived from the archived Ilford sheets, the second instance of the "datasheet archived but never read" pattern. SFX carries a documented partial-fidelity caveat (see its row above).
- ~~FP4 Plus 125~~ closed 2026-07-25, third instance of the archived-but-unread pattern. The sheet yielded the largest quantified latitude spec in the collection (six stops over / two under) and corrected four values in the attributed recipe.
- Still archived-but-unread, in rough value order: Kentmere Pan 100/400 (Ilford, and not listed above), Fomapan 100/400 ( below), Agfa APX 100/400 + Scala 200x ( below). ~~Eight~~ Seven unread PDFs as of 2026-07-26 (Ortho Plus closed), check _reference-sources/datasheets/ against
originals/before searching the open web for anything new.
Additional recipe source. Ross McConaghy (rossandhisjpegs.com): 6 of his creative looks are now in
reference-recipes/(ross-chrome-fog, -canned-heat, -fruit-pastel, -sherbet-lemon, -pumpkin-soup, -salted-slate). His site also has film-emulation recipes that map to open gaps above and could be fetched next: Ultramax Electro (UltraMax 400, Provia base), XP2 Electro (Ilford XP2 Super, Acros+R), Fujipop Trio 1-3 (Fujicolor C200, three bases), Lomo800 Electro (Lomography 800). Note: several of his recipes were published without a stated sensor generation, apply the CCFXB IV→V check where the base is Classic Chrome/Neg/Eterna.
