Architecture & interior photography for the Gulf and Southeast Asia
Hotels and resorts, restaurants and bars, architecture and interiors, photographed so they read the way they feel to stand in, and filmed on the same visit when the project wants motion too. I am based in India and travel for the commission; both regions are a few hours' flight away.
Who this is for
Hotel groups and their marketing teams. Resorts opening a new wing or a refreshed room category. Restaurant and bar groups. Architecture and interior design practices that need their finished work recorded before the furniture moves. Developers of residences that have to look lived in before anyone lives there.
Where
The Gulf
Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Doha, Muscat and Manama. An hour and a half behind India in the UAE and Oman, two and a half in Qatar and Bahrain, so a call fits inside one working day on both sides.
Southeast Asia
Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Phuket, Bali, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. An hour and a half to two and a half hours ahead of India.
What I shoot
Hotels & resorts
Rooms, suites, public areas and grounds, shot to hold up across booking platforms, print and brand campaigns.
Restaurants & bars
Interiors and atmosphere, worked around service hours so the room still looks like itself.
Architecture
Exteriors and structure, timed to the light the building was designed for.
Interiors & residential
Detail and material, for studios, designers and developers.
Day to day I work at Photographix, an imaging studio covering interiors, architecture and hospitality. The commissions on this page are the independent ones I take alongside it.
Colour that matches the room
The other half of my work is colour science. I build Fujifilm recipes the long way round, from the manufacturer's own film datasheets, and publish every setting and the reasoning behind it in the recipe bank. Knowing precisely how a sensor renders a colour stops being a hobby when the job is making a hotel suite look like itself at seven in the morning: mixed daylight and tungsten, stone that has to read as the stone it is, and skin that has to read as skin.
Where a project wants moving image as well, it can be shot on the same visit. Motion and photography on one shoot usually cost less than booking them separately, and the look stays consistent across both. Motion & film.
How a commission abroad works
- Tell me the space, the dates and what the images are for. A hotel opening, a campaign, a portfolio for an award entry: the use decides the shot list.
- We agree the shot list and the light before I travel. Plans, renders or a walk-through on a phone are usually enough to know which rooms want morning and which want dusk.
- The shoot is planned around the building, not the flight. If I am already travelling in the region, a nearby commission can be fitted around that trip.
Questions
Do you travel for shoots outside India?
Yes. I am based in India and take commissions in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain, and in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. Both regions are a few hours’ flight away.
What do you photograph?
Hotels and resorts, restaurants and bars, architecture, and interiors and residential projects for studios, designers and developers. Lifestyle work too: people in a space, for campaigns and brands.
Can you shoot video on the same visit?
Yes. Motion and photography on the same shoot usually cost less than booking them separately, and the look stays consistent across both. See motion & film.
What do you need to give a quote?
The city, the space, the month, and what the images are for: a hotel opening, a campaign, an award entry. That is usually enough for a first answer on dates and a quote.
What is the time difference with India?
The UAE and Oman are an hour and a half behind India, Qatar and Bahrain two and a half. Thailand and Vietnam are an hour and a half ahead, Singapore and Malaysia two and a half, so a call fits inside one working day on both sides.
Have you shot in the Gulf or Southeast Asia before?
Not yet. The work published on this site so far was shot in India, and the sets on the work page are personal projects. Commissioned hotel, restaurant and architecture work is being cleared for publication; if you want to see it first, ask and I will send a PDF.
